Report on Workday, Sun. 7th November 2010
Back
Seven Trust members met up at Forge Cottage on a sunny but chilly morning to continue the work of clearing the orchard as recommended by the recent Orchard Survey.
The workforce today was Roger Savage (Trustee), Shane Goldup (Trustee), Fred Miles (Membership Sec.), Frances Franklin (Trustee), John Hill (member), Chris Simms (member) and Simon Springate (member).
The orchard project is long term - to gradually remove the dead trees and scrub leaving the young native woodland trees and the important grass sward. We hope to do as much as possible over this winter.
Much of the hard work of pulling up the trees was achieved with the use of a dumper borrowed by Shane. Without this we would have managed only a fraction of what we actually did.
On the way up to the plots Roger took several photographs looking towards the leisure plots. Chris has joined these together to give a panoramic view of the Leisure plot area.
Below are more images of the work party and of the orchard, before and after clearing.
